As stated in the Gazeta Musical (April 2010, Brazil) “Nairam Simoes is a proud revelation of The University of Paraíba’s Music School.” Simoes started to pursue his bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at the University of Memphis, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2012. While at the University of Memphis he received The Clementi Santi Memorial Scholarship, awarded to the most distinguished brass student of 2009-2010. In 2013, Simoes was offered the Trumpet Teaching Assistant position at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he earned a Master of Music Performance degree studying under Professor Eric Berlin. During his time at this institution he was a member of the UMass Amherst Trumpet Ensemble, which was one of the winners of the 2014 National Trumpet Competition (NTC) at Trumpet Ensemble Division and a semi-finalist at the 2015 edition of the same competition. Simoes and the UMass trumpet ensemble were invited to perform at the Schagerl Brass Festival (Sitft Melk, Austria) in the summer of 2014. His professional orchestral experiences include: Dayton Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Amherst Symphony Orchestra and others. In 2015 Mr. Simões, while principal trumpet of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra, had his Mahler’s 3rd Symphony post horn solo reviewed as “outstanding moment of music excellently”. (Gazette Amherst, April 2015) His teaching experiences include maintaining a busy private studio at Mason High School, OH; A one-semester position as the trumpet professor at PRIMA - Inclusion Program Through Music and the Arts of the State of Paraíba; and Teacher of undergraduate level lessons at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Simoes is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and serves as the trumpet graduate teaching assistant.
